One Room Challenge Tween Queen Bedroom and Bath {Week 3}

Posted on April 19, 2017

For all of you rolling out of bed right now, let me tell you it’s Wednesday. Which means it’s time to check in on the One Room Challenge! And this week is Week 3, which I’ll do the math for you is the half-way point of the 6 week challenge!!! And whew, those three weeks have flown by!!! But there has been so much progress in my daughter’s bedroom and bathroom that unless a total catastrophe happens I should be able to complete the room ahead of schedule. So if anyone is doing the One Room Challenge and needs help (and lives in a warm, tropical location) you can fly me in and I’ll come paint walls or sew pillows for you. But that’s about where my handy skills end. Ok, let’s talk about some of the fabulous items that have arrived on my doorstep the past couple of weeks. …

The other tween’s room gets a refresh

Posted on April 18, 2017

Have you been following along with Erin’s One Room Challenge and the tween queen bedroom she’s creating for her daughter? I’ve been promising the tween girl in my house for months now (ok, probably more like over a year) that I’d give her bedroom a refresh too. The inability though to find one clear inch of carpet that isn’t totally covered with dirty clothes, stuffed animals or candy wrappers (there is a “no food in the bedroom rule” that is liberally disregarded by my children) left me totally uninspired about taking on her room. This is what Alice’s room looked like two years ago, the last time I gave her space a facelift. Definitely sweet but… in the intervening two years she’s destroyed the duvet, chipped up the bed and every couple of months she has the carpet looking like it’s never ever been cleaned. Even though it had only been a …

One Room Challenge Tween Queen Bedroom and Bath {Week 2}

Posted on April 12, 2017

You know that saying, “the days are long but the years are short”- I feel like right now the days are short and the weeks are even shorter!! Week 2 of the One Room Challenge is here already, which means its time for me to give y’all an update on my room(s). If you missed my Week 1 post you can check it out here. For this round of the ORC I am making over my 9 year old daughter’s bedroom and bathroom. Let’s talk about some of the furniture choices I made for her bedroom. I really wanted this room to transition with her as she starts to enter these oh so awkward stages of life. Even though she is only 9 I really want the furniture pieces to work when she’s 9, 13, or 16. First up was getting a bed that would fit a growing child. For this I …

One Room Challenge Tween Queen Bedroom & Bath {Week 1}

Posted on April 5, 2017

Happy Day, Happy Day- the One Room Challenge is underway!!! A huge thank you to Linda from Calling It Home for not only organizing this massive project but for also thinking enough of the Suburban Bees to invite us back for another round! Tricia hit a home run last Fall with her living room makeover and I hope I can follow her lead and make an amazing room revamp in these next 6 weeks. So let’s get down to what room is receiving this makeover. There were a few candidates that I considered, including our master bathroom, an upstairs bonus room, or my daughter’s bedroom. Each room had pro’s and con’s, and in the end I wanted to get my daughter involved in this project by making her room over and getting her input on some of the major design decisions. My daughter just turned 9, but she’s fairly mature …

A dining room refresh with wallpaper

Posted on April 4, 2017

Thank you to Milton & King for partnering with me on this post today. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own. The dining room in this house has always been like the ugly stepchild and I’ve been the wicked stepmother with more scorn than love to share with it. But with the help of King & Milton wallpaper my dining room is finally getting a little limelight and love. I’ve been stubbornly holding on to this antique table and glass fronted cabinet even though they’re not a perfect fit for the room and, in the case of the table, isn’t even functional. On occasion it simply likes to collapse. Not ideal when a table’s loaded down with food. It’s so super awesome when that happens. Regardless, I’m not ready to part with it or the cabinet. Yet it’s hard to make fundamental change to a room when you aren’t …
