12 Days of Holiday Homes {2016}

Posted on

Erin and I are so excited to be teaming up with an amazing group of bloggers to bring you 12 days of holiday homes. Thanks so much Lynch Creek Farms for providing gorgeous wreaths for the tour and to 11 Magnolia Lane & Evolution of Style for getting us organized! If you’re popping over from Southern State of Mind – welcome to our Christmas homes! Christmas Tour – Part One Tricia’s House Remember that show “The Year Without a Santa Claus?” It looked like that was going to be our house this year – the no Christmas house tour year. With out of town guests for a week, a weekend away, a non-Christmas house-wide photo shoot last week and then another weekend away it wasn’t looking good. Then I remembered – “Oh yeah, sleep is optional!” I stayed up until 3 the other morning and got up at six to get …

The making of an outdoor area {deck and pergola}

Posted on

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday weekend. We had an extremely low-key weekend and 4th of July but highlights include our team coming in 2nd place in the beer relay, massive consumption of this pie which you all need to make, and making progress on the July Year of Change challenge. I am soooo excited to finally share some pictures with you of our massive backyard deck/pergola project that we stared in April. The whole project has been such a game changer for our backyard and there is so much to share that we are going to spread it out over multiple posts this week (read about the pergola posts and railings here, the outdoor furniture and accessories here, and how we created al fresco dining here). Today I’m going to show some before pictures, plans for the space, and talk about the design of the deck and pergola. …

Dueling rooms {basement}

Posted on

Folks, I feel like I need to give you a big, fat apology in advance. For the most part we try to present you with pretty pictures of rooms and inspiration for your own home projects. Sure sometimes we give you a room that looks like this (my room, not Tricia’s) but we try to balance out by showing you rooms like this, this, and this. Today we are pulling up the 3rd string team and showing you our basements. It feels almost cathartic to let the cat out of the bag and show you the most neglected areas of our homes. It’s just so darn hard to decorate around a train table, a tent, dollhouses and play kitchens. If only my kids would cooperate like those Restoration Hardware robot kids and keep our play area looking like this:   Instead, mine looks like this: {Erin’s Basement}   And yes, …

Dueling rooms {boys’ bedrooms}

Posted on

Today Tricia and I are going to share with you the bedrooms of our eldest boys. {Erin’s boy bedroom} I feel a bit like a phony showing you these pictures of my boy’s bedroom because currently the room doesn’t look anything like this. As I eluded to earlier, I am doing a makeover of this bedroom as I wasn’t crazy about the look when I first put it together. But hey, let this be a learning experience for us all and I’ll be happy to point out all of the mistakes I made. Just don’t tell my husband, he still thinks I’m perfect :). I talked about the board and batten wall that we hired out in this previous post. And if you look at that post you’ll even get a sneak peek of some of the changes I made to this bedroom. The first thing you’ll see is that …

Dueling rooms {girl’s bedroom}

Posted on

Both Tricia and I each only have one little girl’s bedroom to share, le sigh. Oh how I wish there were two of these rooms to decorate in my house but as the world of conception would have it, the XY sperm swam just a bit faster in the race to form the third child. But luckily we’ve both got one girl to adorn with dresses, pearls, and eventually tampons. Yes, I’ll probably be super happy about the race results in a few years time. {Erin’s little girl’s room} Designing this room for my daughter was a bit of give and take. Like most little girls, my daughter wanted her room to be pink. Like most moms, I did not. So to compromise I gave her pink accents while keeping the walls a light aqua color. I’m hoping that as she grows we can change out the bedding and accents …
