A Year of Change {July project}

Posted on

Happy 4th of July! I hope you’re reading this post while sitting by a pool listening to Bruce Springsteen in your stars and stripes bikini. Because that’s exactly what I’ll be doing today, minus the bikini part! It’s not only America’s birthday today but also the first Friday of July, which means we need to announce our monthly challenge in the Year of Change. The past months’ challenges have seen us stencil a room, revamp a piece of furniture, take on an outside project, and install some new swag lighting. And of course we’ve had the lovely ladies behind Life on Virginia Street, Rosa Beltran Design, and Commona My House join us and share their projects each month. This month we are joined by Paige from the Pink Clutch Blog as a guest designer and our challenge for July is to take on a neglected room in our house. A room that …

Raise your glass {blood orange pomegranate martinis}

Posted on

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. And the Bitches are here to help you- by giving you a recipe to get tipsy on the holiday. It’s a win/win for you really. If you hate the day then why not get drunk? And if you love the idea of love and have someone to share it with, why not get a little loose and frisky? Blood oranges are only in season for a short time so it’s fun to make the most of them when they are around. And blood oranges make pink juice- serve that to your kids for a good time! To make these drinks a shade of red I added some pomegranate juice, way better than red dye #486. And really, throw some vodka in and you’ve got yourself a great drink with a ridiculously long name! Blood orange pomegranate martinis Makes …

NYE 2013 party decor

Posted on

Man how my New Year’s Eve celebrations have changed over the years. Gone are the days of driving 24+ hours to Vegas for one night of celebrating in exchange for a night at home with neighbors and a daycare full of kids. Partially because finding a babysitter on NYE is hard but also because paying a lot of money for bad booze and mediocre food just doesn’t have the same appeal anymore. This year I had 7 couples and their kids (a total of 15 kids) over for drinks, food, and a lot of champagne! Not a crazy party but a really fun way to ring in the new year. I went simple with the food and ordered the majority of it from Whole Foods. And to bring in the festivities of the night I made a few decorations, which is totally unlike me but I credit to the positive …

At least I finally have the house looking ready for Christmas.  My secret to getting there? Party project {drinks and desserts for launch party}

Posted on

In my mind I like to classify people into two categories- those who like sweets and desserts and those that don’t. I fall into the former category and I really don’t understand people that fall into the latter. I mean really, you don’t like dessert?!?! That’s just wrong in my book. And please don’t tell me that you don’t enjoy a nice cocktail every once in a while?! Luckily for us, the majority of people who came to our party like both drinks and desserts. And here’s what we had for those two categories at the party: Sangria Mint vodka lemonade DIY s’mores station DIY shortcake station First up, let’s talk about the drinks. We wanted to have two liquor drinks that we served in large glass spouted jars. Sangria was an easy choice because it’s sure to get you a little tipsy. I used this sangria recipe only making …
