June Farmhouse Friends – DIY fringed pillow

Posted on

Welcome back to the second round of the Farmhouse Friends! This month I’m bringing a little fringed blue and white fun into your lives – as if there is ever enough blue and white fringed fun! Earlier this month as part of my spruce up for my Summer Eclectic Home Tour I found this blue and white table runner from World Market and the moment I saw it I knew I had to make it mine. I love it as a table runner but it was as if the damn thing was begging me to do more with it. It had greater aspirations than just being a table runner – like being a big long pillow instead. Just by coincidence I got a massively long lumbar pillow from Restoration Hardware from a few years back. It was a favorite of mine but I felt it was like it was a friendship I’d …

Pet portrait art for your home

Posted on

I was going down that old familiar rabbit hole on instagram – you know where you go from one post to another to another to another and next thing you know it’s half an hour… or two hours later? This time though inspiration hit hard and next thing you know I was hot and heavy on the idea of making pet portrait art! This photo from Chrissy Teagen’s instafeed with her and John Legend taking pictures of their dogs for the baby’s nursery got me all fired up! Is there anything better than crazy cute dogs wearing flowers? Not in my book. This looked like just what I needed. My daughter’s room has been all but finished for about a year and a half. I got this far and just petered out. Motivation for the final push, really just artwork, has absolutely eluded me. Pathetic mom – that’s me! Then I saw …

Gold Leaf Silhouettes Craft Redux

Posted on

Thank you to Wayfair for partnering with me on this post today. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own. Happy craft month everyone! I’m checking in with an updated version of gold leaf silhouettes I originally made for my laundry room One Room Challenge. Wayfair reached out to us Bitches about a craft redux – recreating the first crafty project we did for the blog. For me that was the gold leaf silhouettes canvases. I was so excited to participate as it’s been a few years since I did those silhouettes and the kids have changed so much. Plus, I’d been toying with the idea of taking the silhouettes in a more modern gold and white direction. *Gold Leafed Silhouettes* watercolor paper computer cardstock photo image gold sharpie Liquid leaf – classic gold paintbrushes – foam brush & finer artistic brushes Start by taking photos of your subjects in profile against a …

Monday morning catch-up

Posted on

We’re back from Spring Break and I’m ready for a Monday morning catch-up on what’s happening around here and all the fun & interesting things I found on this web this week. Spring Break We headed to Crested Butte ski for our Spring getaway. Snow conditions had been pretty iffy in Colorado for the past few weeks so I was expecting skiing on grass and making up for crappy conditions at the slope side bars. Luckily we got a foot of snow while we were there and the only hinderance to a great trip was realizing after we were in the car for 2 & a half hours that we forgot the ski boots. Oops. Our 5 & a half hour trip suddenly turned into a ten & a half hour one. The kids and I took a detour to the Museum of Nature and Science in Denver while Mr. Man drove home to get the boots …

Rethinking kitchen storage

Posted on

Every January I feel this tremendous urge to organize the hell out of my house to the point I think I must be pregnant to want to nest so badly. Nope – and believe me that’s a happy thing. This year I’ve got the kitchen on my mind. I feel very lucky to have a kitchen the size of ours but I can’t seem to find the functionality zen in it so this January has me rethinking kitchen storage. Case in point – I love my big island but we only put a spot in that will accommodate two stools and guys – I’ve got THREE kids. Anyone with multiple kids is going to tell you this is the perfect recipe for in-fighting. Or birth control for anyone visiting without children. I’d love to remedy the situation by taking out the cabinets opposite the stools, removing the paneling on the front side of the …
