The other tween’s room gets a refresh

Posted on

Have you been following along with Erin’s One Room Challenge and the tween queen bedroom she’s creating for her daughter? I’ve been promising the tween girl in my house for months now (ok, probably more like over a year) that I’d give her bedroom a refresh too. The inability though to find one clear inch of carpet that isn’t totally covered with dirty clothes, stuffed animals or candy wrappers (there is a “no food in the bedroom rule” that is liberally disregarded by my children) left me totally uninspired about taking on her room. This is what Alice’s room looked like two years ago, the last time I gave her space a facelift. Definitely sweet but… in the intervening two years she’s destroyed the duvet, chipped up the bed and every couple of months she has the carpet looking like it’s never ever been cleaned. Even though it had only been a …

A dining room refresh with wallpaper

Posted on

Thank you to Milton & King for partnering with me on this post today. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own. The dining room in this house has always been like the ugly stepchild and I’ve been the wicked stepmother with more scorn than love to share with it. But with the help of King & Milton wallpaper my dining room is finally getting a little limelight and love. I’ve been stubbornly holding on to this antique table and glass fronted cabinet even though they’re not a perfect fit for the room and, in the case of the table, isn’t even functional. On occasion it simply likes to collapse. Not ideal when a table’s loaded down with food. It’s so super awesome when that happens. Regardless, I’m not ready to part with it or the cabinet. Yet it’s hard to make fundamental change to a room when you aren’t …

Styling a modern glam sofa

Posted on

Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m joining up with some of our blog friends to share our favorite sofas and tips for making them look beautiful. I’ve had my eye on a green velvet sofa for years and I finally pulled the trigger not once but twice on this green velvet beauty from Article that I used in last fall’s One Room Challenge. There are so many good affordable options when it comes to green sofas but finally the lines, the price and the return policy won me over on the Sven. I love everything about this sofa and today I’m going to share my steps for styling a modern glam sofa! My goal in this room makeover was to create a sleek, modern and elegant room that could still take the abuse of three messy kids and a big shaggy dog. To me, the most standout part of this room was the …

A pantry makeover

Posted on

It’s January which usually means to me it’s time for an organizing project and this time I’m taking on a pantry makeover! This past fall Erin and I were invited to participate in the One Room Challenge. We took on my family room, breakfast nook and kitchen. This is the kitchen after all that hard work. I’ve loved sharing our new space with friends and family and even hosting a few get togethers over the past couple months. But what didn’t get a makeover and what’s been my semi-hidden secret was my pantry. Outside it was pretty as a picture. Inside it was a total mess that made me cringe whenever I opened those cabinet doors and even more so when friends saw it – it was like getting caught with my holey undies on. Lucky for me Brenna of Domestic Charm invited me to join in an organizational blog hop …

Dinner and a movie at home

Posted on

Once upon a time in a land far, far away my prince charming and I loved getting out for a romantic dinner followed by a night at the movies. It’s the quintessential date night and that’s exactly what we did on our first date. Ok maybe the dinner part didn’t quite work out that night (it’s a long story!) so instead we settled for diet cokes at McDonald’s. Not exactly the most romantic of first dates but we’ve been together a LONG time since then so something went right that night! These days the idea of getting out for dinner and a movie is mere fantasy. I honestly have no idea the last time we did both. Although I’d be in favor of occasional outings Mr. Man can’t quite stomach the idea of paying a babysitter to watch the kids while we sit, not talking, in a dark theater. I guess I can …
