Dueling rooms {girl’s bedroom}

Both Tricia and I each only have one little girl’s bedroom to share, le sigh. Oh how I wish there were two of these rooms to decorate in my house but as the world of conception would have it, the XY sperm swam just a bit faster in the race to form the third child. But luckily we’ve both got one girl to adorn with dresses, pearls, and eventually tampons. Yes, I’ll probably be super happy about the race results in a few years time.

Designing this room for my daughter was a bit of give and take. Like most little girls, my daughter wanted her room to be pink. Like most moms, I did not. So to compromise I gave her pink accents while keeping the walls a light aqua color. I’m hoping that as she grows we can change out the bedding and accents but keep the wall color. Wouldn’t coral and white be a nice change once she outgrows the baby pink phase? Two of the walls were stenciled with a chevron pattern, a super easy way to add fun to the room. The room might have a carnival theme, though we’ve kept any creepy clowns out of the picture. The space is pretty small so there’s not a whole lot of room to do much here. Once the tent comes down I’m planning on reupholstering a little chair for the corner. And eventually bigger bookshelves and storage will be needed. But right now, a pretty light, airy, and fun room for my girl.

Yep, during my ultrasound with #3 my girlfriend and I (Mr. Man had started a job in another state) we both made very false sounding happy exclamations when the technician announced I was having a boy.  Another girl would have been so fun to dress up and decorate her room but luckily those boys do love their mamas!

So here’s my one girly-girl room:

Little Girl's Room with Embroidery Hoop Wall Hangings from Suburban Bitches

Incredibly, Erin & I both decorated our girls’ rooms before we really knew each other so there was, honestly, no collusion on the color scheme!  The ornate pink frame is an Ikea purchase doctored with a bit of hot pink spray paint and the embroidery hoop wall hangings were inspired by this post by The Purl Bee.  The chinoiserie lamp I picked up on clearance from Serena and Lily.  Originally the trim on the lampshade was a light pink.  As  hot pink would be so much better I put my handy glue gun to work and switched it up with a bit of seam binding.

My favorite part of my little girl’s room is the scrapbook paper wallpaper.

When you have a surplus of patterned paper what better way to use up some of your stash than doing up a wall?  I’ll be sharing how to craft your own paper wall in a tutorial next week.

Scrapbook wall & Chinese Laterns from Suburban Bitches

The dresser was mine from when I was a child.  It’s going to be getting a makeover soon.  I think it needs a little gold as I’m on a gold kick and some new pulls like these from Nancy Corzine (image via Design Indulgence).   The bird wall decal was a 75% off clearance deal on amazon.  The little patterned birds on it are a perfect with the scrapbook paper wall.

Turquoise & pink girl's bedroom

I love this little elephant from Pink Pagoda.  She creates the cutest prints; wish I could get them all!

Turquoise girl's room

And that’s my little girl’s room.  She’s getting to be a little less than little now so a transition in her space will probably be coming along soon.  As long as I can keep her from craving purple I be happy with the changes to come.
