The Friday Five {Favorites Blogs of Alt Summit 2014}

SLCBanner252014

Today we wanted to put a different spin on our monthly Friday Fives. Instead of sharing our favorite new products or decor pieces with you, we thought it would be fun to share 5 of our favorite blogs that we discovered while attending Alt Summit. One thing that was great about Alt Summit was finally getting to meet the real person behind the blogs that we read! There were even times when I was too star struck to actually go up to a famous blogger and introduce myself! Lame, right. But I felt like little old’ blogger me was too much of a small fry to ever possibly take up the time of big famous blogger. Totally, totally silly- no matter how large the blog or number of hits per month, the blogger is a human just like the rest of us. So if you ever run into one of us at the grocery store or out and about, you better come say hi to us! It always makes my day when someone recognizes me from the blog (and let’s be honest, that has only happened 2-3 times for me!).

Erin’s 5 favorite blogs discovered at Alt Summit:

1. Rosa Beltran Design We got to hang out with Rosa at the conference and she was a pure delight! So full of life and sweetness. Her main career is as a interior designer (totally use her if you live in L.A.) but she is on her way to launching her own line of furniture. I hope to one day be proudly sitting my ass on a piece of Rosa Beltran furniture! And check out a piece that Apartment Therapy did on her design studio.

So this blog is huge and Heather was one of those ladies that I was too timid to go talk to. But her writing is so clever and full of humor. I think if I lived in Salt Lake City that we would be BFF’s. Just go read this post for your daily laugh.

3. Little Green Notebook

Yet another blogger that I sat DIRECTLY across from at a dinner table and yet was too chicken to say hello. People, what is wrong with me!? Jenny does the most amazing DIY projects for the house and moves at a lightning speed with getting things done. If I could bottle her energy up I’d sell it for millions and hire minions to write these posts for me. Any DIY project you come up with and google will probably land you on her site.

4. Poppy Haus

Heather comes up with some amazing DIY home projects that use really accessible materials. And the photography is always beautiful! She just finished a internship with Anthropologie designing their windows so expect more creative projects to be put up on her blog!

5. Sew bon

First reason this blogger is awesome is that her name is Erin. That should be enough for all of you but other reasons she rocks include that she lives in Colorado, she puts up kick ass sewing tutorials for things other than aprons, and she gives away her free swag to her readers. If you need more reasons then head on over to her blog and find out for yourself.

Tricia’s 5 favorite blogs discovered at Alt Summit:

1. Goods by Grinn

This girl is the cutest thing ever and so is her blog.  And her business cards too. And I might just have accosted Megan to get my hands on one of those adorable cards with “grinn” chapstick. Another thing that led me to Megan, she curated a board with a pink loveseat!  A girl who understands my need for a pink couch? I’m hooked.  I not only love Megan’s recently rebranded site I love the very on trend and affordable pillows she creates.  One of those gold beauties needs to land on my couch very soon.  And if Megan does more of those gold heart pillows you might just see them in every room in my house.  I’ll need a gold heart intervention.

2. Abby M. Interiors

Abby had me at green – the solid green business card. And seriously this girl can not only rock a green anthro blouse — a top I’m partial to it as I have it in polka dot & Erin looked gorgeous in her green one at the Alt Summit Green Party — Abby has mastered bring kelly green into decor. Her designs are absolutely bowling me over with their stunning, crispy, clean vibes. For a year now I’ve been toying with the idea of bringing a kelly green velvet couch into my living room.  I want to be Abby M so I can do green impeccably.  Maybe I can just channel a little Abby and finally get the nerve up to do the green couch.

3. Commona My House

I’m cheating a bit on this one as I discovered Amy’s blog shortly before Alt Summit. I was drawn to it by her love of classic design, antiques, and Downton Abbey. I met Amy the first night of Alt and we bonded over our countless moves, service academy husbands, marriages of 17 years and of course, home decor. Look for Amy’s blog to feature more exclusive home decor projects and DIY, curator and inspiration posts in the coming year.  And I’m personally dying to see how she decorates her latest house in a string of homes. I hope you get to stay in this one for a while Amy otherwise, just move to Fort Collins!

4. TISL Style

TISL Style

Tisha’s blog and instagram feed feature breathtakingly beautiful photos and perfectly edited content.  Then again, what else would you expect from a former decorating and fashion editor  at Country Living?  Tisha’s not exactly out in the country geographically or in her designs. She calls New York City home and cultivates a style that is precisely what I’d love to imagine I’d wear if I didn’t live in a place where there’s a distinction between dressy and dress-down yoga pants. Tisha says she appreciates the mix of a time-worn patina, sophisticated cool, and quiet dramatics and I think that’s a spot on description of her blog. Perhaps most amazingly, her post on Radiant Orchid has me think I might actually like the Patone color of 2014.

5. Life with Lipstick On

Kacee wears gold glitter sweats and looks unbelievable. Is that enough said?  We sat next to her at the Green Party and then hung with her throughout the night.  Lucky us because Kacee is funny, down to earth and definitely a girl who needs to drink wine with us again. And again. I’m going to be tuning into Life with Lipstick On on a regularl basis for inspiration from her gorgeous mix of high/low fashion and to peek into her perfect home.  And did I mention how fun this girl is too??  We can’t wait to hang out with her again next year!

If you need some more blog love in your life check out our favs.  We’d love to hear what some of your latest must-reads are too!
