May Farmhouse Friends

Hi guys and happy Sunday! I’ve teamed up with a fun group of bloggers to bring you a little farmhouse style. Who isn’t obsessing over Fixer Uppers and shiplap right now? I’m going for farmhouse lite into our home – a fresh coat of white paint for throughout the house, black doors, white slipcovers, natural textures and other little touches.

This month I’m giving my sitting room a quick refresh. The last six weeks I’ve lived & breathed the One Room Challenge  (that would be why I had 16 loads of laundry to tackle this weekend!) but there’s other rooms in the house in desperate need of love. My sitting room has been neglected for a few years ever since I added this gallery wall.

I’m over the pink, the yellow walls and the gallery wall itself. I want the room to have a fresh, calm, less busy feel while I try to figure out what I ideally want this space to be. After shopping my house this is what I’ve come up with for my sitting room.

Gone is the hot pink slipcover, the striped ottoman and the gallery.

A few months ago I had my favorite seamstress whip up a new white linen slipcover for my loveseat. Yeah, no kids in this room but I did wash the linen before sending it to her just in case those kids didn’t follow my rules. Something that of course never happens around here!

Back in the fall I found this round oak table on craigslist. I painted it white with chalk paint and got Mr. Man to cut down the pedestal on it. I love a big coffee table and this one fits the bill.

I stole a woven tray, a fern and a couple finals from around the house and now I had the perfect farmhouse tablescape for the coffee table.

Air plants in a vintage trophy are always a good addition to any room. The same could be said of a sheepskin throw and a vintage mudcloth pillow.

But the best touch for a farmhouse feel is to add a sheepdog.

Henry thinks he is indispensable to any photoshoot.

  1. What a pretty room you have. It looks much calmer without the gallery wall and with a neutral slipcover on the sofa. I actually liked your bolder look but like this one just as much!

Cutting down a table to coffee table height is such a good idea. I have my college table stored in the basement and mentioned to my husband the other day that we should make it into a coffee table for our future family room at the lake. Yours looks so nice!

  2. Your new color palette in this room is SO much calmer and really relaxing looking – really pretty!

  3. Hi Tricia, I’m in love with your new room. The white and blue is so relaxing. I can tell by your dog Henry that he agrees.

Love your new sitting room! Your table is really nice, good idea about cutting down pedestal to the size you wanted! Love the new feel of the whole room!

  9. What a beautiful room, to sit reflect and unwind! I love it and I love your “Muppet” friend too, so sweet!
