The One Room Challenge Fall 2016 {sources & details}

Let me start by saying a huge thank you to Linda of Calling It Home, House Beautiful and all the amazing sponsors that made the One Room Challenge possible. Big thanks to all of you for the likes, the love, the comments, posts and emails on my space. Thank you for all generous enthusiasm – it meant the world to me! I always hold my breath wondering if a room is going to come together and if others are going to see it in the same way I do. And WHEW I think you do!  I’m still in shock that Linda tapped Erin and I to join nineteen of our favorite design bloggers for this round of the Challenge and that now I actually get to call these rooms home! What a wild ride!

So now let’s get down to get to the nitty gritty and give you what you want to know – the sources & details for this space.

The first design decision I made in this room was the wall color – Benjamin Moore’s Simply White was staying. I spent months last winter painting all the open areas of our open floor plan home. I still love the color and a change in this space would have meant painting the whole rest of the house that new color which was NOT happening. Instead I used Metrie’s interior finishings to truly make the walls pop rather than relying on color.

For my walls I went with paneling using Metrie’s Fashion Forward Scene II Panel Moulding and for the crown moulding I used Metrie’s 4 1/4″ Crown Mould. To say I’m pleased with how the walls turned out would be a complete understatement. The moulding was the basis for the entire design and it brought in the level of sophistication and elegance that I was after.

The other jumping off point for me as far as the color scheme was the Williamsburg Brand Portobello Vase fabric. That lead to the blue, green and grey in the space. I wanted to balance the traditional look of the fabric and moulding with modern pieces and bring in add interest with brass accents.

Most of all I wanted a room that felt a Parisian apartment: not too trendy but still feels fresh, classic elements but still embraces the modern, elegant but still livable and chic but can still accommodate kids. Most of all I wanted a room where our family can be comfortably hang out and also be excited for company to come by. Overall, it definitely feels like I achieved my expectations; our whole family is really enjoying the new vibe of our rooms.

These are all the elements that helped me achieve that look.

  1. Anne says:

So gorgeous! Can you give the info on the blinds, please?

    • Hi Anne – thanks so much! 🙂 I purchased the blinds about six years ago from 3 Day Blinds. I’ve was just trying to find a link to those particular blinds but unfortunately I can’t seem to find it. I do know that they are Kathy Ireland for Alta and it looks like a lot of blind sites seem to carry those. Hope that helps!

  2. Hi there! Curious about the cushion on the kitchen banquette. I’m making one for mine (unfortunately it’s an odd shape so I can’t just buy) and love this color fabric. Thanks!

  3. Rachael says:

Apologies if I missed it, but I would love details for the emerald velvet sofas. Thank you.

  4. joann says:

Everything is gorgeous—nice job!!! Fun to watch it all come together!

  5. Jessica says:

    Love your doom so much!!

  6. Sarah Brown says:

What a stunning room 🙂 I was looking into buying the couch that you feature and was just wondering if you could tell me whether it was comfy? So hard to tell from pictures online! Thanks in advance 🙂

    • Anne Shaw says:

same here … they have the couches on sale and I am thinking about pulling the trigger. Thoughts? (pretty please???)

      • So sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner Annie! We took a little downtime for Christmas. We are loving the sofas – they are holding up great, they are comfortable and the kids are trying their best to give them a run for their money and they look just as good as the day they arrived! Good luck with your decision! 🙂

  7. Dodi says:

Gorgeous room! I would love source info for the gold geometric lamp on the end table by the sofa.

  8. Rachel says:

Love this room! Those green couches are amazing! Where did you get the grasscloth wallpaper? Thank you!
