Raise your glass {Carolina shiners}

What do you do on an ugly stormy day at the beach? Come up with a new drink of course! I didn’t want to fight the crowds of wet beach-goers in the grocery store so that left me to create a concoction from the limited supplies of our vacation grocery supplies. The only liquor we had in the house was Carolina moonshine and beer- it felt like a Top Chef moment! I went with an homage to the South with moonshine and sweet tea. The whole family loved them! I think the best part of the evening was seeing my mother downing a glass of moonshine. That was definitely a “when pigs fly” sort of moment.

Here’s the drink I concocted:

The Carolina Shiner

• The juice of one lemon

• 1 tablespoon honey

• 2 tablespoons simple syrup

• 2 shots of moonshine (I used Broadslabe Legacy Shine)

• Freshly brewed tea (I used Lipton’s Iced Tea bags – I am in the south after

• Rosemary and Lemon for garnish.

Squeeze the lemon into the bottom of a highball glass. Add the honey and stir until the honey has dissolved into the lemon. Add the simple syrup, moonshine, and tea. Stir. Add ice and garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a lemon slice. It doesn’t get much more simple than that. It’s the perfect drink for a hot summer’s evening or for drowning your sorrows while dejectedly hanging out in a beach house while the rain pours down. Either way it’s deliciously refreshing! Cheers!
