Inspired by DIY: Pottery Barn Gold Leaf Coral Prints

Posted on

This month I’m jumping into the Inspired by DIY Challenge organized by my friend Jess of Domicile 37. Each month, Jess & friends find a piece from a store or designer that  inspires them and they each make it their own. I’m so happy to be jumping into the fray with them! This month’s inspo comes from Pottery Barn. I don’t mind getting down and dirty with a good DIY but most of Pottery Barn’s products lie well outside my range of DIY competence. Seriously people, ain’t no way I’m making a couch or a basket. Part of the challenge for me this month was finding something that I could use as inspiration. I kept it in my wheelhouse by going for the Gold Leaf Coral Framed Prints. Just one problem – they took them off the site today before I downloaded an image of them! Here’s all you need to know …

DIY watercolored fabric

Posted on

Last month I was struck with the idea that DIY watercolored fabric could be a really cool idea. I talked to my friend Kellie from Velvet Finishes and she was so on board with the idea of painting fabric that she sent me some of her fabulous paint to give it a go. It turned out to be a really easy project! DIY Watercolored Fabric Pillow Supplies: Natural linen Velvet Finishes Paint (or acrylic paint) Small bowl Paint brush Spray bottle of water Garbage bag Mix a tablespoon of paint with a quarter cup of water in a small bowl. Spray down your fabric with the spray bottle of water. You want the fabric to be fairly wet so that the paint will not have distinct edges but with instead run and create a more organic feel. Then just start painting away. I found that if I constantly sprayed the …

DIY {cowhide bench}

Posted on

It’s been far too long since we gave you a down and dirty DIY project- don’t you think? Well we are going to change that today and share with you a fairly simple DIY that gives you a pretty spectacular end product. Before we start I must confess that I was a bit unsure how to tackle this project when I dreamed it up in my head and the internet was no help as it appears that this *might be* the first tutorial on a DIY cowhide bench. Say what?! No one else has had a burning desire to sit their butts on a cowhide every day? So without the internet providing me with the how-to for this DIY I contacted my friend Gayle at Sparrow House of Design to find out if she could help me with this project. Upholstering a bench is a pretty straight forward process but I was …

One project, two takes {Holiday Pillows}

Posted on

What would the point be of all that Christmas decorating if you didn’t have some great pillows to finish it all off? Erin made her couch super festive with these plaid pom-pom pillows. And I gave my navy love seat a little holiday flair with these houndstooth deer bust pillows. {Tricia’s holiday pillows} Although I kept my Christmas decorating to a minimum this year I still wanted some seasonal pillows to go with my color scheme of green, gold, yellow and white (you can get a tour of my quick decorations and Erin’s much more elaborate and beautiful ones here). I quickly whipped up a couple pillows in a green houndstooth. You could easily pick up pre-made pillows in your colors from Target or Home Goods for this project. The only other supplies you’ll need are a piece of flannel measuring 10″ x 12″, fabric glue, fabric stiffener and an image. …
